Use Human Design as a career compass: My chat with Jules Fedele on bridging the spiritual with the professional

What's it like to leave a corporate career and follow a calling that means revealing your spiritual side? My interviewee, Jules Fedele, will tell you.

This one is for all of you who have tried or are intrigued by Human Design. And if you don’t have a clue about what I’m talking about, check out this post first and then come back to dig deeper into the topic.

In this second part of The High on Hope Rebel Series, I speak to

, founder of The Portfolio Careerist and a career and business mentor who uses HD to help women move the needle forward in their careers.

Jules has so much wisdom to share and an amazing ability to communicate the intricacies of Human Design in a way that doesn’t feel too abstract or overwhelming. So even if you’re a bit sceptical about HD itself, I really recommend you sit down with this one (or walk, or run, whatever works for you).

In this chat, we cover topics such as:

  • how Jules, with a career in private equity and an MBA in her pocket, got drawn to Human Design

  • how it has felt like for her to “come out of the closet” with her spirituality

  • how Jules went from a career that didn’t fulfil her to becoming a business owner

  • how embracing her HD type has changed the way she works

  • how she has successfully introduced elements of Human Design into corporate spaces where people shy away from all things ‘woo-woo’.

Words of Wisdom

Here are some of my favourite moments from this interview, all quotes by Jules:

On finding career fulfillment [1:19]: “In 2017, I had a wonderful opportunity for “a dream job” to move my whole family from Sydney, Australia to London. And we packed up our lives and we got there. I realized within a three-month period that it wasn't my dream job. I hated everything about what I was doing and I felt completely lost. […] What then started to happen as I started this self-exploration phase, like really trying to understand why I had always gotten to the point where I had climbed this corporate ladder, but then I'd gotten to the top and turned around and realized I'd climbed the wrong one.”

On the differences between HD types [29:58]: “Quite often when we see anyone selling a four-step framework, they're either a manifestor or a projector because manifestors can cold-call. They can initiate sales. They're very good at it. It's their energetics. They've just got this ability to initiate ideas and it works. It lands. And so that blueprint for them worked fabulously. And then they try to sell it to others. And then someone like me, a generator picks it up and I'm like, that does not work. That does not feel good for me.”

On building a business [32:39]: “I'm a bit sobering when I mentor people, because if you're starting from scratch, there is a way to use your design to build a business, but it will take years. And I know that's not what people want to hear […] But my questions are, why do you want to grow so big? Help me understand the business you want to build and what your objectives are. And we can work towards that. But having a massive following, why is that the outcome? That's something I'd get really curious about.”

On sharing her interest for HD on platforms like LinkedIn [7:00]: “If you read my material in on some platforms I talk about traditional human design but on things like LinkedIn, I use different words so it doesn't sound so woo-woo or people can connect with it because I really believe in meeting people where they are so they feel safe enough to accept it.”

The High on Hope Rebel Series

This series of interviews features people who have taken a big leap of faith without knowing where exactly it will land. They’re also people who are breaking conventional rules about how to succeed in this world and figuring things out for themselves in inspiring ways. They’re the ones who publish a book even if people tell them it’s an impossible sell, leave social media even if it means slower business growth, choose ethical approaches to their work instead of maximising profit, follow a spiritual path rather than societal rules, share their stories even when they’re in the midst of personal turmoil, and open their hearts to talk about the good, the bad and the vulnerable.

They’re the type of rebels that the world needs more of.
They’re the people who create hope.
They’re the people I love to hang out with.
