July video special: Imposter syndrome survival tricks

It's a condition that touches many of us. It's something I personally seem to struggle with every July and January. What to do when imposter syndrome strikes?

I’m back from my caravan holiday and I must say I had a lovely time switching off, taking time off from my laptop and listening to the birds sing. Now I’m back home, back to client work and thinking about my business and the autumn season. Because this time of year is typically a quiet one, I have a lot of time to think, which means, I also tend to start worrying about things.

So last week, I was struck by a moment of uncertainty and imposter syndrome.

However, I was lucky to realise that my years of self-employment are starting to pay off. They have taught me that when these worries arise, I know there’s an antidote.

Watch the video to hear what I do in these moments. Then, go over to the coaching questions below to think for yourself.

Questions for reflection

  1. What is your go-to worry complex of choice? Is it paralysing fear, imposter syndrome, panic mode or doing 100 things and more, or something else?

  2. What kind of action helps you change your state of mind? Does it help, for example, to do something productive or creative, take a walk, meditate, or watch a film?

  3. Could you try to make it a habit to take one of these actions every time these worries arise so that you won’t end up ruminating for days on end?

And, here’s the view from the other side of the camera this week.

As this July special is now coming to an end, let me know how this type of content resonates with you by leaving a comment, sending me an email or a PM. This will help me decide whether this is something I should continue doing.

And if you’ve been on holiday yourself and are have missed the previous video posts, you’ll find them all here.

Thanks again for your time and attention.

And remember that hope is not given to us but created within and by us. So let’s take action instead of getting stuck in imposter syndrome, okay?

With the warmest wishes,
Aurora
